Our awesome client is hiring a Research Engineer to join our cutting-edge research team and help build the next generation of AI-driven surgical planning tools.
At the crossroads of AI, medical imaging, and 3D design, our platform transforms CT/MRI scans into actionable insights, enabling precise surgical planning and patient-specific instruments in minutes. With strong backing from top SaaS investors and international implant partners, we’ve already powered hundreds of real-world surgeries — and we’re just getting started.
As a Research Engineer, you’ll tackle challenges at the core of medical innovation: segmentation, landmark detection, Image registration, 2D to 3D modeling, AI-assisted surgical workflows, advanced analysis, parametric 3D design, and much more.
What You’ll Do
Build and advance state-of-the-art AI/ML models for medical imaging (segmentation, landmark detection, anatomical analysis, etc.).
Drive research from idea to POC and scale across diverse clinical use cases.
Design, implement, and validate parametric 3D algorithms for patient-specific instruments and implants.
Partner with designers and engineers to create end-to-end, AI-assisted surgical workflows.
Analyze large clinical datasets and turn insights into robust, production-ready services.
Work with product and platform teams to ship, monitor, and iterate on features in the CustoMed platform.
Track and apply the latest advances in computer vision, deep learning, and generative design.
What We’re Looking For
7+ years building AI/ML systems with a focus on computer vision; strong Python and PyTorch
Proven ability to take a research idea from paper → POC → production, including experimentation design, ablations, and rigorous validation.
Ability to translate research concepts into robust, production-ready prototypes
Sound software engineering: testing, type hints, code review, observability (profiling, tracing, metrics).
Curiosity, problem-solving mindset, and a passion for advancing healthcare through technology
Experience with 3D geometry, parametric design, or CAD modeling - Advantage
Publications, patents, or impactful open-source contributions - Advantage
Why Join Us?
Drive research across a wide range of fields - from computer vision and 3D geometry to biomechanics, optimization, simulation, and generative design.
See your work directly impact real-world surgeries and patient outcomes
Work with a multidisciplinary team at the intersection of medicine, AI, and 3D design
Shape the future of personalized surgery and patient care
Collaborate with a world-class team backed by leading investors
If you’re passionate about pushing the boundaries of AI in healthcare and want to turn research into life-changing surgical solutions, we’d love to hear from you.
